Please take 15 minutes each week this summer to contact the officials advancing this project. A brief email or phone call really matters. You don't need a script — in fact, it is more effective to use your own words to explain why Mount Prospect Park's green space matters to you and your community. And keep doing it — don’t think, “one and done.”
Sustained volume over time matters enormously. People calling every week are much more influential than people calling once. Officials pay attention to a passionate, engaged constituency that won't give up and go away.
Post on your refrigerator, program the numbers into your phone — wherever you will see the info and continue to do it!

What to Say? Speak from the heart. Some common concerns include:
Wanting to save green parkland that’s key to New Yorkers’ physical and mental health — more important every day, given how green space and trees help protect us during heat waves and air pollution emergencies, shade trees and green space reduce paved heat-island impacts (rather than making them worse with paving), etc., etc.
Addressing serious site-specific safety issues specifically raised by skate experts and their published materials
Respecting the park's historic character. (It’s been officially assessed as eligible for the National Register of Historic Places!)
Opposing the loss of flexible public outdoor space used for recreation, gatherings, and relaxation (Include how Mount Prospect Park is important to you!)
Expecting decisions about public parkland to be transparent, accountable, and shaped by meaningful community engagement — not treated as a "box-checking" exercise to try to legitimize a decision after the fact
Being disturbed that paving a beloved green space and cutting mature shade trees contradicts the priorities in Mayor Mamdani's new Urban Forest Plan — particularly in Brooklyn, which already has the City's worst tree canopy coverage and least green space per person
Noting that in addition to the impacts on green space and tree canopy, the construction is also inequitably sited: Brooklyn already has more than 40% of New York City's skate facilities — many of them clustered around Mount Prospect Park, and many of them in need of maintenance and improvements, while the vast center of South Brooklyn is a skate "recreation desert."
Using millions of taxpayer dollars for this construction — given concerns above, your concerns, and our City's needs
